Onur Sevigen – A Voice for the Ordinary People
Onur’s “Ordinary People” Captures The Struggles And Resilience Of City Dwellers
Onur Sevigen’s “Ordinary People” highlights urban struggles and resilience. After four years abroad, he blends eastern and western sounds, merging British and Turkish influences, with new English releases forthcoming.
London-born British artist Onur has made a striking return to the music scene with his latest release, “Ordinary People.” Known for his velvety falsetto, ONUR captures the struggles of everyday life in London, singing,
“Life, this is London Town
We don’t mess around
Got no time left for friends or family
This hustle might just kill me now.”
His poignant lyrics resonate with many, reflecting the relentless pace and pressures of urban life.
In “Ordinary People,” Onur offers a message of resilience and hope, urging listeners not to lose faith:
“It’s gonna be okay don’t give up hope
I can see in your eyes that you’re tired but we’ll make it I know.”
This theme of perseverance is central to ONUR’s work, as he explains, “I wrote ‘Ordinary People’ because I’m so sick and tired of how life keeps turning out for the majority of people. None of us asked for such a labor-intensive life.”
After spending four years abroad, Onur has returned to the UK and the international music scene with a fresh perspective. His time away allowed him to explore his ethnic roots, infusing his music with a vibrant blend of eastern and western sounds. His recent tracks, “Lambo” and “My Way,” showcase this unique fusion, incorporating eastern instruments like the darbuka, davul, and clarinet alongside his signature western style.
Onur’s journey began with his debut single “Beamin’” in 2018, which quickly caught the attention of media and renowned artists such as Martin Garrix, Labrinth, and Goldlink. His distinctive sound has been featured on platforms like The Fader, BBC Radio London, and Bloomberg TV, and he has performed sold-out shows in London. His single “Beautiful Time” nearly reached 900K streams on Spotify, cementing his place in the music industry.
During the pandemic, Onur was invited to produce for major Turkish pop singers, an experience that inspired him to create an album’s worth of material blending British and Turkish influences. While in Turkiye, he released five singles and two EPs in Turkish, further exploring his dual heritage.
Now back in the UK, Onur is poised to release a series of English songs in the coming months, continuing to bridge cultures and connect with audiences worldwide. His music remains a testament to the resilience of ordinary people, offering both solace and inspiration in challenging times.
