Your novels span from heartwarming contemporary romance to epic fantasy. What inspires you to explore different genres, and how do you adapt your storytelling to each one?

I find my writing has common themes no matter which genre I write. I love writing strong family connections and friendship dynamics and merging romance into my stories as well, whether it be the main focus of the story or just a subplot. So crossing into different genres isn’t difficult for me, it really just comes down to the research aspect for the type of manuscript I’m working on, because the common themes sort of weave themselves in and lead the story already.

Your books often feature themes of resilience, love, and self-discovery. How do you approach character development to create such relatable and inspiring protagonists?

I love character transformation. I love to make my characters face real issues and life circumstances. When they overcome, my readers feel they have also. When my character finds love, hope, family, or a new path, I want my readers to feel that joy as well. And I think we all want those things and that’s what makes them so relatable.

In addition to being an author, you’re also an entrepreneur. How do your experiences in business influence your approach to writing and publishing?

You have to be able to take constructive criticism and you cannot be afraid to fail. Is every book going to be a best seller? No. Is that okay? Yes. Can you still be successful? Yes. But will everyone like what you’ve written? No. You have to be okay with the fact that you may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but to someone, you may be their favorite author. Having that mindset helps you keep moving forward.

Writing a compelling romance involves crafting deep emotional connections. What’s your process for developing chemistry between your characters and making their love stories feel authentic?

Again, I think it comes down to how do the characters connect. What makes each of them tick and what would make them stronger together, as well as adding in humor and real-life scenarios that could happen. It doesn’t have to be elaborate or over the top, it just needs to be real and hopeful.

What has been the most rewarding moment of your writing career so far, and what advice would you give to aspiring authors looking to carve their own path in the publishing world?

That’s a tough one. I’ve hit goals and achievements over the years that I could never have fathomed with my writing, for which I’m thankful, but one of the most rewarding moments has been publishing a children’s book series with my oldest son. Taking his imagination and story and creating a fun series for kids has been so fun and special.

For aspiring authors I would say, don’t give up. Keep going. Keep writing. Get the first draft FINISHED. You cannot edit a blank page. It will not be perfect. And hey, no one expects it to be perfect, that’s what editing is for! Just get the words down and get your story out, everything else will start falling into place after that. Just get the words down and take it one step at a time.
