How do you transform a vivid dream into a fully developed novel, and what does your creative process look like from that initial spark to the final draft? ☻

I start by writing down everything I can remember—every color, detail, and emotion. I dream in full color, so it often feels like watching a movie. But it’s usually months, sometimes even years, before I sit down to write it. In that time, inspiration seeps in from everyday moments—a couple arguing over dinner, a stranger’s expression, a headline—and I begin to nurture the idea. I compare it to conception and pregnancy: the dream is the seed, and the time before writing is the gestation. When I finally sit down, the story flows naturally—as a birth should.

What were some of the biggest challenges and turning points in your self-publishing journey, and how have they influenced your growth as an author?

When I wrote The Tapestry of A. Taylor, based on the first dream I intentionally remembered, I had no plans for anyone else to read it. Self-publishing was barely a thing. I just wanted to see my book on a shelf. But thousands read it. Some pointed out it needed editing—but most praised the story. That lit a fire in me to improve. It even led me to finish college as an adult. I’ve always loved learning, which is a blessing in this ever-changing industry, yet keeping up is often a challenge.

The real turning point came about two and a half years ago. I hit a crossroads: take another job I hoped to manage despite health challenges—or bet on myself. I chose me. That decision didn’t just change my career—it changed how I see myself. I stopped waiting for permission to chase this dream. I realized I already had everything I needed to succeed.

What inspired Brie Taylor’s emotional evolution in The Tapestry Series, and how did you approach writing her transformation across the trilogy?

Some readers struggled with Brie in the beginning—called her weak or unrealistic. But I see her every day. At the grocery store. At church. In the mirror. People who’ve been beaten down by life and told they’ll never rise again. They inspired me to write it. Brie is real, and I wrote her that way on purpose.

Her transformation is gradual and hard-won—just like real healing. She finds strength through her own grit and through characters like Annie Mae and Hazen, who believe in her, mentor her, and pray for her. She’s a testament to what happens when broken people find community, faith, and purpose.

How do you decide which genre to explore next, and what strategies do you use to maintain a consistent voice across such diverse storytelling styles?

My next project is usually decided by whichever dream refuses to let go. Recently, I woke up from one so vivid I knew it wasn’t a standalone—it was a series. That became The Last Safehouse

In the dream, a young girl loses her parents—only to discover they were covert government assassins. Now their enemies are after her, and she holds the key to something she doesn’t even know exists. She needs help—enter the hero, someone she doesn’t know and must learn to trust.

As for voice, I write like I’m talking to a friend. People often tell me they hear my speaking voice when they read my books, and I take that as the highest compliment. I just tell the story—no matter the genre. Whether I’m writing suspense, historical drama, or romance, emotional truth is what grounds every story.

Looking back on your career so far, what moment stands out as the most meaningful or defining highlight?

There have been a lot of meaningful firsts—first sale, first book signing, first five-star (and one-star) reviews. All of them helped shape my career. But the most defining moment was when I felt God clearly tell me it was time to bet on myself. That moment felt like confirmation—that the college professor who believed in me, my parents, and the readers who cheered me on were all nudging me toward His plan. I just had to be brave enough to say yes.

As a multi-genre author, how do you balance creativity across different story types while building a cohesive author platform?

I never set out to write in multiple genres. I simply follow the stories that won’t let go of me. That’s how I ended up writing romantic suspense, historical fiction, literary fiction, contemporary romance, and now an upcoming Christmas rom-com.

What ties them all together isn’t genre—it’s emotional truth. Whether the story involves espionage, a Civil War romance, or a woman rebuilding after heartbreak, my voice stays the same. I write like I live—honest, layered, and always chasing redemption.

That’s the heartbeat of my brand: One Author. Many Genres. Infinite Journeys. It’s not just a tagline—it’s a promise. No matter the setting or style, readers can count on authentic characters, deep emotion, and a redemptive thread of hope woven through it all.

I’ve stopped trying to fit into boxes. My platform is built on honesty, versatility, and connection—and I believe the right readers will follow the voice, not just the genre label.

Because at the end of the day, I’m not the one writing the story. God is the author. I just hold the pen.
