What inspired you to start writing, and how did you know it was the right path for you?

Inspired by Emily Dickinson, I started writing dark poetry around age twelve, and it progressed from there. From Anne Rice to true crime to ultimately the dark romance of Penelope Sky

Many of your books feature compelling character dynamics—how do you approach developing your characters’ personalities and backstories?

I use the people in my galaxy. For example, Lizzy Marron is modeled after my daughter’s personality, and Archer is inspired by my friend, former Air Force soldier and fellow author GM Katz.

How do real-life experiences influence the themes and plots of your novels? I try to keep real life out of my stories. Life is hard enough; we don’t need them brought into our escape. The few times I actually bring any outside world into my stories, it’s regarding my fight against human trafficking.

Could you walk us through your typical writing process? Do you plan everything in advance or allow the story to evolve naturally?

I’m a “pantser,” meaning I have no outline and no idea where the story will go. I know what I want the story to be about, so I write down the main character’s names and let the story unfold.

Which of your books was the most challenging to write, and why?

Honestly? I don’t find any part of writing the story hard. It’s everything that comes after — marketing, social media presence, advertising, etc. — that’s the struggle.

Romance often involves balancing tension and chemistry—how do you craft these moments to feel authentic and engaging?

I go with what personally makes me angry, heartbroken, sizzle. But I do it all with a mutual respect between characters. All my women are strong and can protect themselves, but love that their men want to protect them.

How do you handle writer’s block or creative fatigue when it arises?

I walk away for however long it takes. I am a mood writer, so if I don’t feel like it, then I don’t write. I am fortunate to be an indie author, so I am not beholden to anyone or any timeline.

Are there particular authors, books, or genres that have shaped your own writing style?

Penelope Sky is my writing idol. The way she can create a story that makes you want to scream in anger one moment, then fall in love the next, is astounding.

How do you engage with your readers and respond to feedback?

I love engaging with readers! I try to support their social media pages, interview them to give them more exposure, send them free autographed copies, and watch their lives.

What advice would you offer to aspiring authors, especially those looking to break into your genre?

Stay true to yourself, block out all the toxicity in the book community, and ask for help. I own a complimentary publishing service company that does pretty much everything a trad publisher does, but I don’t charge because I know what it’s like to be a broke artist being charged an arm and a leg to publish my art.
