Your book, My Journey to Enjoying My Life, shares a deeply personal account of overcoming childhood abuse. What inspired you to transform such a painful experience into a message of hope?
I saw that people were stuck in the unfortunate events of their past. I want to help them, to show them a way out of the trauma that has overshadowed them. I got free, and I wanted to help others get free as well.
In your writing, you often intertwine faith and personal healing. How do you balance spiritual themes with universal emotions to resonate with a broad audience?
Whether or not we believe in God, our emotions are real. We all have them, so everyone can relate to any experience I have. I find that every audience is looking for answers and is open to good advice.
“Faith is what kept me grounded when life felt unbearable.” – Karin Thompson
As an author, you aim to uplift and encourage others. How do you ensure your message remains authentic and not overly preachy?
By having compassion for others. Everyone is a real person who is struggling. I’m not here to judge but to support and help.
Your second book, Encouragement for the Weary Soul, offers practical advice for daily challenges. Can you share a particular chapter or insight that you believe has had the most profound impact on your readers?
In the chapter “Encouragement for Those Who Cannot Forgive,” I have found the most impact on my readers. Forgiveness is the only way forward from a broken and abused past. The insights in this chapter have helped people heal and forgive. They see the necessity of forgiving and letting go of the burden they have carried too long.
Given your background in overcoming adversity, how do you approach character development to authentically portray struggles and triumphs?
Character development is crucial; otherwise, we will keep doing the same things over and over. We need to renew our minds – change how we think about the past. We need to develop habits that will carry us forward to a new life. Habits that will help us grow and develop into better people. Then, we need to establish routines to carry out these habits daily, providing us with a pathway to growth. Life will always throw hardships at us, but how we handle them will make all the difference in the outcome. We need to learn tactics and methods to overcome them and to be strong.
You mentioned that writing must be passionate and not forced. How do you navigate periods of writer’s block, and what strategies help you rekindle your inspiration?
If I’m stuck, I stop for a while. I read some novels or watch a movie that will rekindle my flame. Sometimes I push too hard, so a break for a few days does wonders.
Your journey from pain to purpose is inspiring. How do you maintain your own spiritual and emotional well-being amidst the demands of writing and public speaking?
I have daily habits I do without exception. I cannot be effective if I’m empty inside, so keeping close to God and staying full of His Word is essential to helping others.
In your experience, how has sharing your personal story influenced your relationship with your readers and the broader community?
I’m happy to say it’s been very positive. I’m so grateful I have been used to help encourage and give others hope. It’s wonderful to see my books inspire others. Some email me and thank me, which is so encouraging to me.
Looking ahead, what themes or messages do you hope to explore in your future works, and how do you envision your growth as an author?
I write about forgiveness in all my books, both fiction and non-fiction. I want to reach a larger audience with my message of hope, so I am speaking on podcasts and in churches to share this truth.
For aspiring writers, especially those with personal stories to tell, what advice would you offer to help them find their voice and share their experiences authentically?
Staying silent won’t get the job done. Write a book or share your testimony with others. We need to share our victories because the world needs to know now more than ever that there is hope in God.
