A Decade of Culinary Excellence: Asian Food & Restaurant Awards (AFRA) Celebrate 10 Years in the UK

AFRA celebrates its 10th anniversary, recognizing British-Asian cuisine’s transformative impact on culture and economy while uniting industry trailblazers with public nominations for an extraordinary gala event in Mayfair, London.

The Asian Food & Restaurant Awards (AFRA), the UK’s leading platform for celebrating excellence within the Asian food and hospitality industry, is marking its milestone 10th anniversary this year. Hosted by Samara Events UK, the awards recognize the immense contribution that Asian cuisine and restaurants bring to British culture and the economy.

AFRA CEO Attul Haq expressed the significance of the awards, saying, “The British-Asian food and hospitality industry plays a vital role in the UK economy and contributes greatly to the country’s cultural and economic growth. These awards are about celebrating that contribution and highlighting the people and brands driving Britain’s food industry forward.”

George Shaw, Editor of The Good Curry Guide and Chair of the 2025 Judging Committee, highlighted the importance of unity through food: “At a time of rising social tensions stoked by populist right-wing movements for their own hidden agenda, there has never been a more important time to celebrate the contribution Asian food and restaurants make to British life. Asians in the hospitality sector are a beacon of the enrichment afforded by multiculturalism, fostering social cohesion across cities and towns in the UK.”

Taste Asia proudly partners as a media sponsor for AFRA’s 10th-anniversary gala, celebrating a decade of Asian culinary excellence and innovation in the UK.

The spice-loving public and food professionals across the country are encouraged to nominate their favorite restaurants, takeaways, hospitality brands, and food retailers by emailing info@samarap.org. “We welcome nominations from every city, town, and borough, and our mission is to recognize all the deserving businesses that continue to raise the standard of British-Asian cuisine,” the AFRA team added.

This year’s grand event promises to be more spectacular than ever. Set to take place on Monday, 2nd December at the iconic Dilly Hotel in Mayfair, London, the glamorous black-tie gala will be hosted by Bollywood star and radio presenter Anushka Arora. A true celebration of innovation and excellence, the event will honor restaurants, chefs, food brands, and hospitality businesses that have left an indelible mark on the UK’s culinary landscape.

Supported by partners such as Taste Asia, Madhu’s, Cobra Beer, Sunrise Radio, Punjab TV, Brit Punjabi, Do Care, and PayTap, the event underscores the integral role of Asian cuisine in shaping Britain’s dining culture over the last decade.

As the AFRA celebrates ten years of raising the profile of British-Asian cuisine, it reflects a decade of honoring the trailblazers of the industry and inspiring the next generation of culinary excellence.
