What inspired you to share your real-life sailing adventures in the “Our Alternative Lifestyle Adventure Stories” series?
In my travels I had so many people asking me questions about what life was like living on a sailboat. It truly inspired me to tell my story. I wanted to be an inspiration for others to live their dreams.
How did your own experiences living on a boat shape the tone and authenticity of your writing?
Living on a sailboat is a great challenge and forces you to think outside of the norm. It also gives you plenty of time to read and enjoy life away from the TV, internet, and electronics that cloud your imagination.
In “Finding Famous”, what drew you to blend elements of fantasy and self-discovery in the storyline?
Honestly, it started out to be a heartfelt journey of a mother and daughter, but I got bored with the story and had to change everything after I added magic to the journal. I still wanted to touch the readers, but also entertain them as well.
Do you find it challenging to switch between writing fiction and non-fiction, and how do you balance the two?
I actually just love telling stories whether they are true or not so I write what I’m feeling about at the time. I cannot imagine limiting myself to one or the other.
Which of your characters do you feel most connected to, and why?
Definitely Vanessa in “From Money to Murder” because I based her personality on mine.
How do your travels and love for adventure influence your storytelling process?
I truly enjoy sharing my experiences with others, which is why I write the places and experiences in all of my books.
What message do you hope readers take away from your books about courage and following one’s dreams?
I think I said it best in “Jump Before You Fall” . You never know if you will be able to get up again. Life is so fleeting and I hope I help others to choose not to have regrets and take opportunities to live every moment.
What advice would you give to aspiring authors who wish to write authentically from their own life experiences?
In this day and age the route of traditional publishing is out of reach for most. I say, tell your story, make sure it is publish ready, and self publish. Never let those naysayers stop you from telling your story.
