Crunch Corn Redefines Savoury Snacking
Popcorn Kitchen launches Crunch Corn, a giant Peruvian Choclo corn snack inspired by Seville Food Fair, offering three flavours, HFSS-friendly, crunchy alternative to crisps, nuts and seeds for consumers market.
A new savoury snack is entering the UK market as Popcorn Kitchen unveils “Crunch Corn,” marking what the company describes as a natural evolution in its product line.
Founded by Louise Monk, Popcorn Kitchen has built its reputation on a focus on high-quality mushroom corn for popcorn. Now, the brand is expanding into a different category with a product centred on large, crunchy corn kernels.
The idea for Crunch Corn was sparked in 2023 when Monk attended the Seville Food Fair 2023, one of Spain’s most prominent food and cultural festivals. While exploring local bars and food venues, she encountered roasted giant corn kernels—known as Choclo—which inspired the concept for a new snack offering.
Unlike traditional sweetcorn, Choclo giant corn is significantly larger and delivers a firmer texture, making it well-suited for roasting and seasoning. According to the company, achieving the right balance of supplier sourcing and flavour development took approximately two years.
Crunch Corn is positioned as a fibre-rich, HFSS-compliant alternative to more conventional snacks such as crisps, nuts and seeds. The product is launching in three flavours—Sea Salt, Salt & Vinegar, and Spicy Chilli—and will be sold in 100g sharing bags.
Popcorn Kitchen says the product aims to meet growing demand for simpler, more transparent snacking options. The kernels are packaged in clear pouches to highlight their size and consistency, with the company emphasising the absence of fillers often found in other snack products.
Speaking about the launch, Monk said the goal was to create a more satisfying savoury option for consumers seeking alternatives to traditional crisps or allergen-prone snacks.
Crunch Corn is now available via the company’s website, Popcornkitchen.co.uk, as it looks to establish itself in the competitive savoury snacks market.
