Your books beautifully blend intense emotions, dark themes, and undeniable passion. What draws you to write deeply emotional and sometimes edgy romance stories?

I started reading romance at one of the lowest points of my life. The genre has been called the genre of hope, and that resonates deeply with me. I love writing stories that can bring characters to a place where a happily ever after seems nearly impossible and yet deliver it for the reader without a doubt that it is a worthy ending. Romance books picked me up at one of the darkest times of my life and my hope is that I can do the same for others.

You’ve built an impressive brand, not only as a bestselling author but also as a savvy entrepreneur in the book industry. How do you balance the creative side of writing with the business side of publishing?

The two hats I wear, business and artist, are so wildly different that it is a breath of fresh air when I switch between the two. I often think of my business side as the protector of the artist side. After all, it’s the entrepreneur in me that allows the writer the freedom to create without worry. I’m not just responsible for creating the happily ever afters, I have to package them and deliver them to a variety of different audiences in a number of different forms, and do it consistently and consistently. That challenge is as exciting to me as writing the next best seller.

Your characters often face heartbreak, redemption, and deep emotional growth. How do you craft such raw and relatable love stories, and do you ever find inspiration from real-life experiences?

Every little thing can inspire. Every thought or idea comes from real life in some capacity. Even if it is the twist of one thought and marrying it with an experience that I heard of long ago. It stems from a moment in time where I felt a certain emotion and that emotion is what inspires. I pride myself on capturing that emotion and writing my stories in a way where the reader feels exactly what I feel. I had an English teacher in high school who told me: a book is good if it’s able to make you feel. At the time, her words didn’t resonate the way they would years later, but I truly took her wisdom to heart.

With a vast collection of books and series, how do you keep your stories fresh while staying true to the themes your readers love? Do you have a specific process for developing new ideas?

Firstly, I am my own reader. I used to read a book a day, bee bopping around from light and short romances to lengthy dark romance binges. So my love for stories knows very few limits. Romance as a genre has a theme and that is the theme I stick to always: we are worthy of love regardless of anything and everything else. So long as I provide that promise, I don’t mind being inspired to write any kind of story and pushing the boundaries of those stories. New ideas come to me constantly. By the time I sit down to write a story, it’s generally waited in the back of my mind, developing and demanding that it’s worthy to be written for months, if not years.

Many aspiring authors look up to you for your success in self-publishing. What advice would you give to writers hoping to turn their passion into a full-time career?

Write for yourself, edit for the masses, market for the money. I tell this to every writer who messages me about self publishing. It’s so important to stay true to yourself for your story, but then allow the business side to make a career from the IP. There are so many opportunities in this industry, so if you want to do it, do it. You can’t edit a blank page.So write the story, and then worry about the business. Your story can live a thousand lives, but it has to be written first.
