From her Navy family upbringing to her passion for vintage vehicles, every element of her life finds its way into her work, bringing authenticity and charm to her stories.

As an award-winning writer, Inge has contributed to more than a dozen mystery anthologies and novellas. Her works, such as Virginia is for Mysteries and First Comes Love, Then Comes Murder, captivate readers with suspenseful plots, memorable characters, and a touch of humor. “Writing short stories is gratifying because they create a complete narrative in just a few pages,” she shares, revealing her affinity for crafting compact tales inspired by her love for Edgar Allan Poe.

Teresa Inge masterfully combines charm, suspense, and relatable characters, creating unique and compelling mystery fiction that delights readers worldwide.

Inge’s connection with mystery writing traces back to her childhood obsession with Nancy Drew. “Growing up, I was captivated by Nancy Drew mysteries, especially her iconic blue Roadster,” she says. This love for stylish vehicles and adventurous heroines later inspired her protagonists, who often cruise through their own crime-solving adventures in classic cars. The writer’s fondness for automobiles extends into her personal life, tied closely to her prized possession: a Torch Red 1955 Thunderbird.

Speaking about her T-Bird, Inge recalls the thrill of purchasing it as a young adult after admiring the car in the movie American Graffiti. “As a teenager, I cruised the local strip known as ‘gasoline alley’ and dreamed of owning a Thunderbird,” she explains. Her car has since been a centerpiece at book signings, sparking conversations with fans and fellow enthusiasts.

Inge’s upbringing as a “Navy brat” also plays a role in her craft, influencing the settings and adaptability of her characters. “We moved a lot, which gave me great insight into different settings and adaptability for my characters,” she explains. The constant moves imbued her with a strong sense of community and resilience, qualities often seen in her protagonists as they navigate small-town life and uncover dark secrets.

A dedicated member of the crime writing community, Inge credits organizations like Sisters in Crime and its Guppies chapter for helping her hone her skills and connect with others in the field. “Sisters in Crime helped my writing career through networking, professional relationships, and publishing opportunities,” she says. Her involvement spans over two decades, demonstrating her commitment to both personal growth and uplifting fellow writers.

Pets, particularly dogs, also feature prominently in Inge’s stories. Whether it’s her Mutt Mysteries series or standalone tales, the connection between humans and their canine companions plays a central role in the narrative. Inge notes, “I develop strong bonds between my protagonists and their dogs, who often aid in solving crimes throughout the books.” Her love for animals extends beyond the page, as she is a passionate advocate for involving pets in creative storytelling.

Balancing a full-time job at a global financial firm with writing requires discipline and creativity. Inge maximizes her time, promoting her books on social media in the early morning, writing during her lunch breaks in her car, and dedicating her evenings and weekends to crafting her stories.

One of her most meaningful projects, First Comes Love, Then Comes Murder, holds a special place in her heart. The anthology, featuring tales of bridezillas and relationship drama, is an all-female effort that has earned two awards and provided Inge with a proud moment in her career.
